<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make characters legible without squashing them when printing a receipt with a reduced font size. <P>SOLUTION: A data processing device in an embodiment comprises reduction means, change means, and print means. The reduction means reduces a font size of characters indicating information regarding commodity sale to a size equal to or smaller than a predetermined font size. The change means changes gradation level of the characters reduced in size according to the importance of an item to which the information indicated by the characters reduced in size belongs.
