A terrain visualisation device is disclosed, the device comprising a mounting structure adapted to be fixed to at least one of a user, a vehicle and a static object. The device also includes a light emitting unit attached to the mounting structure and configured to project a predetermined contrast pattern onto terrain when the mounting structure is fixed to a user, vehicle or static object. Also disclosed is a method for traversing terrain comprising projecting a predetermined contrast pattern onto the terrain using a light emitting unit, so that the topography of the terrain can be determined from distortion of the contrast pattern. |
