An apparatus for biomass decomposition comprises: a hydrothermal decomposition unit (17) which constitutes a decomposition unit; a biomass extraction unit (19); and a solid-liquid separation unit (20), and is also provided with a scraping means (21) on a flight end section of a screw (14) positioned in an installation region of the solid-liquid separation unit (20). In the hydrothermal decomposition unit (17), a supplied biomass raw material (11) is conveyed by the screw (14) from a first end (lower end) to a second end (upper end) within an apparatus main body (13) and also pressurized hot water (15) which constitutes processing water is supplied into the apparatus main body (13) from the second end (upper end) side which is different from the biomass raw material supply location, hydrothermal decomposition takes place while the biomass raw material (11) and the pressurized hot water (15) are brought into contact with each other, hydrothermal dissolution components are transferred into a discharge liquid (16) which constitutes the pressurized hot water to be discharged, and lignin components and hemicellulose components are separated from the biomass raw material (11). In the biomass extraction unit (19), a biomass solid component (18) is extracted from the second end (upper end) side of the apparatus main body (13), from a pressurized environment to a normal pressure environment. In the solid-liquid separation unit (20), the discharge liquid (16) is extracted from the first end of the apparatus main body (13).
