<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical alignment type liquid crystal display element capable of materializing fine display. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element having a predetermined display area and actuated by multi-plex drive, includes first and second transparent substrates 4; first and second transparent electrodes 11 and 16; first and second vertical alignment films 12; a liquid crystal layer 30 disposed between opposing surface sides of the first and second transparent substrates, and having negative dielectric anisotropy and retardation larger than 450 nm; first and second visual angle compensation plates 3a and 3b disposed on the opposite side to the opposing surface side of the first and second transparent substrates; and first and second polarizers 10 disposed in a cross Nicol state outside the first and the second visual angle compensation plates. At least either one of the first or second vertical alignment films is subjected to alignment processing in a first direction, and a plurality of opening portions extending in a predetermined direction is equipped in an area corresponding to the display area of at least either one of the first or second transparent electrodes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
