PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the size of a paper sheet to be used while suppressing the increase of an operation burden on a user.

SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a sheet includes: a feeding unit that feeds the sheet whose size is irregular on a transfer path; a detection unit that detects a timing when front and rear ends of the sheet having irregular sizes pass through a prescribed position; a first determination unit that determines the length in a width direction of the sheet fed from the feeding unit; a feeding control unit that can feed the sheet to a feeding destination by using the transfer path without having the image formed by an image forming part to the sheet fed from the sheet feeding unit; a second determination unit that determines the length in a transfer direction of the sheet by detecting the sheet fed by the transfer control unit in the transfer path by the detection unit; and a third determination unit that determines the sheet size of the sheet having irregular sizes based on the length in the width direction of the sheet determined by the first determination unit and the length of the transfer direction of the sheet determined by the second determination unit.
