The present invention relates to a hybrid cytokine comprising IL-7 and HGF-ß and/or bioactive portions thereof, including a chimeric or fusion protein comprising an IL-7 polypeptide or bioactive portion thereof, and an HGF-ß polypeptide or bioactive portion thereof, joined contiguously in a single polypeptide chain; and wherein the hybrid cytokine polypeptide inhibits the growth, proliferation, and/or metastasis of a cancer cell, in vivo.
