The present invention relates to a language learning apparatus using video and to a method for controlling same. A main control unit (13) controls components of the apparatus such that data required for learning can be read from a database (16) and displayed on a display unit (12), sound can be inputted/outputted to/from a sound input/output unit (14), and data can be inputted/outputted by means of the communication between a communication unit (15) and an external source, such that a student may perform the following processes in series: understand the concept of a word to be learned; familiarize himself/herself with the relationship between the spelling and the pronunciation of the word to be learned; look at the pronunciation of the word to be learned and carefully write the word to be learned; listen to the pronunciation of the word to be learned and dictate the word to be learned; confirm the learned word; and learn the missed word again. According to the present invention, students may learn words by a word learning system having a novel concept, in which a logic mnemonic system for describing the concepts of words, a schematic mnemonic system for maximizing understanding, and a rote memory system for promoting memory recall are suitably combined. In addition, the apparatus and method of the present invention contain mother tongues of the students and foreign languages so as to achieve improved efficiency and communicability in learning words, and the maximized usability of the apparatus. |
