PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of improving product reliability of a lithium ion secondary battery.

SOLUTION: A negative electrode 2 of a lithium ion secondary battery includes: a negative electrode collector 22; and a negative electrode active material layer 24 containing negative electrode active material particles and provided on a surface of the negative electrode collector 22. The negative electrode active material layer 24 has: a low density region 242 where a density of the particles constituting the negative electrode active material layer 24 is relatively low; and a high density region 244 where a density of the particles constituting the negative electrode active material layer 24 is relatively high, the high density region being adjacent to the low density region 242 in an extending face direction of the layer.
