<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic polycarbonate copolymer which exhibits high flame retardancy by itself without containing a flame retardant and can maintain high flame retardancy even in a resin composition produced by blending another aromatic polycarbonate resin, and also to provide an aromatic polycarbonate resin composition including the copolymer. <P>SOLUTION: The aromatic polycarbonate copolymer has a repeating unit (I) induced from dihydroxy biphenyl and a repeating unit (II) induced from divalent phenol, and has a viscosity-average molecular weight of 10,000 to 50,000. The molar fraction of the repeating unit (I), [x/(x+y)]×100 is 30-45 mol% when the repeating unit (I) in the copolymer is defined as x mol, and the repeating unit (II) as y mol. Further, the molar fraction of duplet of the repeating unit (I), [a/(a+b+c)]×100 is 10-20 mol% when the duplet of the repeating unit (I) in the copolymer is defined as a mol, the chain comprising the repeating units (I) and (II) as b mol, and the duplet of the repeating unit (II) as c mol.
