<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a structure that a steering wheel can be smoothly displaced forward upon generation of a secondary collision even in the case where the structure has an electrically-driven motor 13a which is one component of an electric power steering device and is installed in a sideway projecting state. <P>SOLUTION: The dimensions of a pair of left and right mounting plates 17e, 17f mounted on a column-side bracket 10d supported on a steering column 6c are made different from each other on the right and left. More specifically, a distance Le between the center of the steering column 6c and the center of a bolt 34 for supporting the mounting plate 17f on the motor 13a side is set to be shorter than a distance Lf on the non-motor 13a side. The rate of a break-off load applied to the installation side of the motor 13a having the short distance Le is increased.
