A medical information broker system (400) and method is disclosed, that advantageously allows for brokering medical information directly between a diagnostic imaging modality (110) and a EMR system (410). The system (400) can include, for example, a communications module (210) configured to receive at least one file containing patient data from a diagnostic imaging modality (110) in a first format, and send the at least one file to a destination modality (410) in a second format; a diagnostic information converter module (220) in electronic communication with the communications module (210) and configured to convert the at least one file from the first format to the second format; and a work list engine (230) in electronic communication with the communications module (210) and configured to create a task list accessible via a user.
