<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify an attachment structure of a wire grid type inorganic polarizer and to effectively utilize the expensive wire grid type inorganic polarizer. <P>SOLUTION: In the attachment structure of a wire grid type inorganic polarizer according to the present invention, an opening 31Bb which makes light pass through is provided on a plane part 31Ba of a holder 31B. The wire grid type inorganic polarizer is attached such that the plane part 31Ba of the holder 31B is sandwiched between a glass substrate 31Aa of a wire grid type inorganic polarizer 31A and a surface protective substrate 31C which protects a metal element 31Ab of the polarizer. In this manner, the metal element 31Ab of the wire grid type inorganic polarizer 31A is inserted into the opening 31Bb.
