摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the state of even a nozzle not ejecting an ink droplet in real time on the basis of residual vibration of a pressure chamber after driving a piezoelectric actuator, by detecting the residual vibration of the pressure chamber even for the nozzle not ejecting the ink droplet. <P>SOLUTION: An inspection driving signal COMtest for driving the piezoelectric actuator 22, without ejecting the ink droplet is arranged before a driving signal COM for ejecting the ink droplet and is output. Either or both of the driving signal COM and the inspection driving signal COMtest are selected according to printing data SIH and inspection nozzle selection data SIL and supplied to the piezoelectric actuator 22. In the inspection driving signal COMtest, when the piezoelectric actuator 22 is driven, the volume of a cavity 23 is enlarged at the rising of the driving signal to thereby pull in the ink and detect the residual vibration generated in the cavity 23 in such a state that the enlarged volume of the cavity 23 is held.
