A cubic boron nitride sintered compact tool which comprises, at least at a blade tip, a cubic boron nitride sintered compact formed in a binder phase with cubic boron nitride particles, the cubic boron nitride sintered compact tool being characterized in that cBN content is 20 to 60 vol%, at least Al2O3 and a Zr compound are included in the binder phase, the average value of a continuous distance occupied by Al2O3 is 0.1 to 1.0 µm and the standard deviation of the continuous distance occupied by Al2O3 is 0.8 or less on any straight line in the sintered compact, X/Y is 0.1 to 1 in the straight line when X represents the number of contact points between Al2O3 and the Zr compound and Y represents the sum of the number of contact points between Al2O3 and cBN and the number of contact points between Al2O3 and a binder-phase component other than Al2O3 and the Zr compound, and the average particle diameter of the Zr compound is 0.01 to 0.1 µm.
