<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase practical value and availability of retort furnaces (I.1, II.1, III.1) for heat treatment of metal workpieces, using tubular retorts (I.3, II.3, III.3) surrounded by furnace housings (I.2, II.2, III.2). <P>SOLUTION: According to a first variant, the weight of a batch is to be decoupled from the retort (I.3). According to a second variant, a second circulation device (II.18.2) is to be arranged for heating elements (II.6) of the retort (II.3).
