PURPOSE: A system for providing additional information during a real time broadcast by pattern recognition and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to easily receive various additional information by capturing a screen of a mobile terminal while the user watches a broadcast. CONSTITUTION: An input image unit(100) includes a specific pattern image in a broadcast image screen. If a real time broadcast screen is inputted through a camera of a mobile terminal, an image processing unit(310) extracts a specific pattern image in a screen. An information providing server recognizes the pattern image. The information providing server converts the recognized pattern image into unique values. The information providing server transmits additional information through a communication network.
