PURPOSE: A hydraulic control apparatus for an auto transmission and a control method thereof are provided to reduce the number of components by selectively supplying working fluid to a plurality of friction elements. CONSTITUTION: A first solenoid valve(72) controls the pressure of working fluid provided to a friction element embodying change gear steps. A second solenoid valve(74) controls the pressure of the working fluid provided to the friction element embodying the change gear steps. An angle control valve(50) selectively supplies the working fluid to the friction element by determining a supply direction of the working fluid. A line pressure control valve(80) offers line pressure of the working fluid provided to the friction element. A TCU(Transmission Control Unit) transmits a control signal to the first solenoid valve, the second solenoid valve, and the line pressure control valve according to the traveling state of a vehicle.
