<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide element capable of reducing return light generated at an end surface of a waveguide structure or an end surface of the element. <P>SOLUTION: An optical waveguide element 1 includes a core 30 adapted to guide light and a cladding 20 which surrounds the core 30. The core 30 has a tapered region 33 whose width becomes narrower toward a tip 30a, the cladding 20 has a tip-side region 35 formed on a further tip side Y2 of the tip 30a of the core 30, and a direction of an axis line C3 of the tip 30a of the core 30 is inclined with respect to a normal line M of a tip surface 22b of the tip-side region 35. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
