The invention relates to a method for producing a security document (20), and to a security document (20). The method comprises the following steps: providing and/or producing at least one film (1) composed of a plastics material; areally printing at least one region of at least one surface (3) of the at least one film (1) using ink (6, 6-1, 6-2); wherein the at least one film (1) is provided and/or produced such that the at least one surface (3) acquires and/or has cavities (5) for taking up the ink (6, 6-1, 6-2). This yields a security document (20) comprising a document body, which comprises at least one layer composed of a plastics material produced from a film (1) and a printing with an ink (6, 6-1, 6-2) applied to at least one surface (3) of the film (1) forming the at least one layer, wherein the printed ink (6, 6-1, 6-2) is substantially arranged in cavities (5) formed in the at least one surface (3) of the film (1) forming the at least one layer.
