A backlight device (24) according to the present invention includes: a chassis (22) that has a bottom plate and side plates (22b) and that opens toward the front surface side; a plurality of LED light sources (28) that are arranged in a matrix pattern on the front surface side of the bottom plate of the chassis (22) and that emit light toward the opened side of the chassis (22); and a reflective member (26) that has insertion holes (26d) through which the respective LED light sources (28) are inserted and side wall portions (26b) surrounding the respective LED light sources (28), the side surface of each side wall portion (26b) forming an oblique surface (26a), the oblique surfaces (26a) directing the light from the LED light sources (28) toward the opened side of the chassis (22). In the reflective member (26), the side wall portions (26b) located more toward the central section of the bottom plate of the chassis (22) have greater heights than the side wall portions (26b) located more toward the end sections of the bottom plate.
