A first computer runs a host operating system and a virtual machine monitor. Virtual machines are run using the monitor. All the virtual machines have a first portion, which is the same in all the machines. A second portion of the virtual machines includes state data, which is specific to the particular virtual machine. A part of the second portion is stored onto a portable device. The device is then connected to a second computer, which also runs virtual machines using a virtual machine monitor. The virtual machines on the second computer have the same first portion as those on the first computer. The second portion data is copied from the portable device to a virtual machine on the second computer. The virtual machine is then executed using the state data from the virtual machine on the first computer. |
