Gap sub comprising first part/s 7 with connection site 4 and second part/s 36 with second connection site 6. Connection sites are at first and second ends of the isolation component. Two threaded connections 10/12 are between the two connection sites. One threaded connections is right handed and the other is left handed. Insulating material 20/21/22/29/31/32/33 is provided between the first part/s and second part/s so the first and second connection sites are electrically insulated from one another. Some of the insulating material may receive a compressive force when one or both of the threaded connections are tightened. There may be a mid-section 13 and/or a stabilising component 23 between two end pieces. Insulating material 21 may be positioned between the threads of the threaded connections.
