PURPOSE:To heighten energy density and to lengthen charge-discharge cycle life by specifying integrated micropore volume and integrated micropore volume distribution of micropores whose micropore radius is 10-250Angstrom of a carbon material for a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode is formed with a transition metal chalcogen compound. A negative electrode 3 is formed with a carbon material in which the atomic ratio of hydrogen to carbon is less than 0.10, spacing (d002) of face (002) by an X-ray wide angle diffraction method is 3.37-3.75Angstrom , crystal size (Lc) in C axis is 5-150Angstrom , integrated micropore volume of micropores whose micropore radius is 10-250Angstrom is 1.0X10<-3>ml/g or more, integrated micropore volume distribution of micropores whose micropore radius is 10-20Angstrom is 0.1-0.5, that of micropores whose micropore radius is 20-100Angstrom is 0.1-0.7, and that of micropores whose micropore radius is 100-250Angstrom is 0.1-0.5. An active material is lithium or alkali metals mainly comprising lithium. A battery having long charge discharge cycle life and high reliability is obtained. |
