The invention relates to a plant for the combined mechanical and biological purification of waste waters (effluents) composed of two cylindrical vessels having an interior divided into three independent zones. The object of the invention is to create a simply constructed waste water purification plant for the combined mechanical and biological purification of waste waters by the activation principle, including nitrification and denitrification, which achieves by simple means highly satisfactory degrees of purification of the water. The invention is that the plant operates by the principle of activation including nitrification and denitrification, that the inner zone of the first vessel represents a sedimentation zone, that the inner zone of the second vessel represents a secondary purification zone, that both are conically constructed and are furnished with a sludge outlet, that the central zones of both vessels represent denitrification zones and the outer zones represent nitrification zones, that the outer zones are furnished with an aeration apparatus and a pump and that both vessels are connected together by a line for the prepurified water, a line for the activation mixture and a line for the activated sludge.
