PURPOSE: A composition containing undecylenic acid or conjugated linoleic acid for preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases is provided. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases contains at least one fatty acid of undecylenic acid and conjugated linoleic acid as an active ingredient. The composition is a pharmaceutical or food composition. A composition for suppressing calpain activity contains at least one fatty acid of undecylenic acid and conjugated linoleic acid as an active ingredient. The undecylenic acid or conjugated linoleic acid is isolated from Ricinus communis L. The composition is used by intramuscular, subcutaneous, oral, intrarectal, or intrapulmonary administration.
