PURPOSE: An indoor unit of an air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to measure the height of an installed indoor unit with a distance sensor, and control the amount of discharged air according to the measured height. CONSTITUTION: An indoor unit(100) of an air conditioner comprises a front panel, outlets, opening members, a distance detecting part, and a controller. The front panel comprises a suction part sucking indoor air. The outlet is arranged in at least one side of the suction part, and discharges air that is heat exchanged by a heat exchanger. In order to selectively open the outlets, the opening members are movably installed. The distance detecting part detects at least one of the distance from the front panel or the indoor unit to the floor or the distance from the front panel or the indoor unit to the wall. The controller controls opening degree of the opening member based on the detected result of the distance detecting part. |
