The method involves authorizing an activation control of a starter for restarting an internal combustion engine. A minimum duration (dmin) and a maximum duration (dmax) are elapsed between an activation of the starter and the engagement of the pinion with the crown wheel. A temporal range of authorization is defined, so as to engage the pinion with the crown wheel for an engine rotational speed (N) ranging between a minimum rotational speed (Nmin) and a maximum rotational speed (Nmax).
