Provided is a lighting apparatus (3) equipped with light-emitting diodes (light sources) (5); and a light guiding plate (7) that guides light from the light-emitting diodes (5) to a prescribed propagating direction, and radiates the light to a liquid crystal panel (object to be radiated) (2). The lighting apparatus (3) is provided with a chassis (housing) (9) for housing the light-emitting diodes (5) and the light guiding plate (7) therein. The chassis (9) is also provided with a support member (support section) (12) for supporting the light guiding plate (7).
