<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine that can set a proper sewable area even if an embroidery frame is in a generally rectangle shape and its corners are in an arc shape. <P>SOLUTION: In a sewing machine, two Y-coordinates where a contact ball of a folding lever of a probe makes contact with an embroidery frame are determined by transferring the embroidery frame forward and backward (S13). Two X-coordinates where the contact ball of the folding lever of the probe makes contact with the embroidery frame are determined by transferring the embroidery frame rightward and leftward (S15). Four transfer points are determined in the direction of diagonal lines of a virtual rectangle that is obtained from these X- and Y-coordinates. By transferring the embroidery frame in each of transfer point directions, four coordinates where the contact ball of the folding lever of the probe makes contact with the embroidery frame are determined (S17).
