<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce damage to a piece liable to be caused when a binding mechanism relatively moves to a binding part for performing binding processing by inserting the piece formed by cutting off a part of a recording material bundle into a notch of the recording material bundle. <P>SOLUTION: In a place (see marks 15A and 15B) of performing the binding processing by a first binding unit, a tongue 522 extends toward the moving direction of the first binding unit. In addition, the first binding unit finished with the binding processing moves toward the direction of extending the tongue 522.
