The bread slicing machine has a cutting channel into which the loaf is placed, and a transverse pressure plate (24) with gripping devices. A vertical fence (12) has a horizontal rod (13) projecting at right angles from the lower front, which reaches over the whole width of the channel and guides the carriage sides (21, 22). And slightly higher and to the rear, another shorter rod (14) projects to guide the back end of the long side (21), on which a flat blade (25) with a raking side is fixed parallel to the base.
