A solar cell comprising an asymmetric compound parabolic concentrator including an 5 entrance and an exit aperture, wherein the asymmetric compound parabolic concentrator includes two reflective surfaces with distinct parabolic shapes; and a photovoltaic cell positioned near the exit aperture of the asymmetric compound parabolic concentrator such that a majority of the light incident at the asymmetric compound parabolic concentrator is directed toward the active surface of the photovoltaic cell.
