The airbag apparatus has an inflatable gas bag provided with a gas bag envelope (10) that defines a pocket (1). A gas generator (4) is provided for filling gas bag with gas or for opening an outflow (110) of the gas bag. The gas generator is partially arranged on the gas bag envelope and is inserted in the pocket without securing fastening elements.
