PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a playback device capable of specifying a position of a picture corresponding to time information (time stamp (33-bit PTS)) of an MPEG(Moving Picture Expert Group) standard code even if the time information of the code is reset before the time information of the code exceeds the upper limit.

SOLUTION: A playback device (100) of the present embodiment manages the range of discontinuous time information in which time information (time stamp (33-bit PTS)) of an MPEG standard code becomes discontinuous, and based on the range of the discontinuous time information, specifies a position of a picture corresponding to time information of a picture received in an editing operation.
