The present invention relates to a transmission apparatus and method, a reception apparatus and method, and a transmission/reception system whereby contents as occasion requires can be acquired. A server (11) generates a PDI-Q representing a question about a user's taste of a client (12), and transmits, to the client (12), the PDI-Q and a provider-side PDI-BA expressed by use of a bitmap index and representing an answer, which is established by a provider that provides contents, to the question about the user's taste. The client (12) generates, in response to the PDI-Q received from the server (11), a user-side PDI-BA expressed by use of a bitmap index and representing a user's answer to the question, and matches the user-side PDI-BA with the provider-side PDI-BA received from the server (11), thereby determining an acquisition of contents delivered from the server (11). The present invention can be applied to a broadcasting system that broadcasts digital television programs. |
