<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter capable of shortening an overall length of an automatic transmission. <P>SOLUTION: The torque converter 1 includes: a casing 10 coupled to an output shaft of an engine; a torus T comprising a pump 20, a turbine 30 and a stator 40 formed in the casing 10; a multiplate lockup clutch 60; and a lockup damper 70. The casing has an outer circumference bulged in a direction opposite to the engine, the bulged portion disposed as axially overlapping an inner circumference side of a curved portion of a transmission casing where a face of the transmission casing opposing the torque converter 1 is curved in such a state that an outer circumference side of the face is farther from the engine side than the inner circumference side, and the bulged portion disposed at an engine side of the curved portion. The clutch 60 is disposed as axially overlapping an outer circumference of the turbine 30 and at an engine side of an inner circumference of the turbine 30. The damper 70 is disposed as axially overlapping the outer circumference of the turbine 30 and at a radially outer side of a portion T1 where the axial dimension of the torus T reaches the maximum. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
