The method involves adjusting a determined reference value in a safety temperature monitor (1). Medium flow of a primary side of a heat exchanger (4) is interrupted when reaching the value. The primary side is again connected after cooling the monitor on the reference value. A signal is conducted for deactivation of the monitor by a controller (3) during water heating on a secondary side. The water heating is enabled at a high temperature than the reference value of the monitor. The monitor is again activated by the controller after reaching the temperature of the water heating. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for thermostatic return control during water heating on a secondary side of a heat exchanger.
