The present invention enables a more effective reduction or prevention of a temperature increase of a lighting optical system and a ring-slit image formation means. The lighting optical system and the ring-slit image formation means housed in a first casing and a light source is housed in a separate casing, and so it is possible to reduce a temperature increase in the lighting optical system and the like that accompanies the release of heat by the light source. Also, a portion of the first casing is formed in a manner so as to protrude laterally from the first casing, an air intake opening is formed on the bottom surface of said portion, and an air outflow opening is formed on the top surface of said portion as well as a fan being disposed; as a result, it is possible to effectively cool the light source, and it is possible to more effectively reduce or prevent a temperature increase of the lighting optical system and the like that accompanies the release of heat by the light source.
