The socket (10) has socket modules (16) arranged in series and releasably inserted into a housing (14). The housing has a housing upper part (18) with a U-shaped cross-section, and a deep center part (26) for accommodating the socket modules. Two double-walled side flanges (28) upwardly project on both sides from the center part, where a top surface of the center part and the side flanges are made of a sheet metal that is transformed by bending. The sheet metal along the top surface of the centre part is provided with apertures (34) for the socket modules.
