<p>There is disclosed a linear actuator (100 fig. 1) for a valve (200) having a valve element (214) linearly moveable along a drive axis D between at least an open and a closed position. The linear actuator comprises a plurality of linear piezoelectric motors 104 arranged in parallel, each motor having a linearly moveable drive rod 108; and a transfer member 112 to which the drive rod of each linear piezoelectric motor is coupled such that it can be linearly driven along the drive axis. The transfer member 112 is arranged to be coupled to the valve element (214) such that the plurality of piezoelectric motors can be actuated to linearly drive the valve element between at least the open and closed positions. Each piezoelectric motor is bi-directional and can hold their respective drive rod at a plurality of intermediate positions to control the flow of liquid through the valve.</p> |
