The method for ascertaining the approach of the lean blow off (LBO) of a gas turbine engine having at least a combustion chamber (10) into which a fuel is supplied and burnt generating a flame (20, 21) comprises ascertaining a value indicative of the gas temperature in recirculation areas (19) adjacent to the flame (20, 21), and recognising the lean blow off (LBO) approach on the basis of this value. Also a device for ascertaining the approach of the lean blow off (LBO) is disclosed.
