A lens retainer for retaining a lens 1 on a lamp body 4 comprises an elongate retaining device 2 with a contact surface for contacting a peripheral surface of the lens 1 and an engagement surface for engaging a cooperating surface formation 6 provided in the lamp body 4. The lens retainer extends substantially the length of the lens 1 and applies a uniformly distributed retention force whilst minimizing parts complexity and assembly time for the lamp assembly.
