The method for sensing the laundry quantity of a washing machine is disclosed to minimize a damage from an excessive washing and reduce a use electricity and a use material in the washing by sensing the exact laundry quantity. The method includes the steps of: counting a processing time of two pulses and total pulse numbers; judging whether the number of left turns of left turns of a motor is four; turning the motor right and then counting pulse number after detecting a stop signal when the motor stops; judging whether the number of right turns of the motor is 4; and judging whether the number of normal turns number and the number of reverse turns of the motor are 12 respectively.
