In some information recording mediums, when the storage capacity of one recording layer increases, SBM size varies according to the size of the spare regions. In such information recording mediums DDS and SBM become mutually dependent and acquiring disc management information is difficult. Disclosed is an information recording medium wherein when a user data region is allocated with the largest size, the number of blocks required to store the space bitmap is Ni(Niâ § 2); and when the user data region is allocated with the smallest size, the number of blocks required to store the space bitmap is less than Ni. If the number of blocks required to store the space bitmap for a given recording layer is Mi(1â ¦Miâ ¦Ni), and if Mi is 2 or greater, space bitmaps are divided into 1-Mi space bitmaps, which are each of a size that fits into one block in compliance with the DDS, and are recorded in Mi blocks in the disc management region.
|
