The invention relates to a Ti-based alloy comprising in its composition elements with high biocompatibility, which is used in orthopedy for producing spinal implants and to a process for preparing said alloy. The claimed alloy is biocompatible and has the following chemical composition : 80% Ti, 10% Zr, 5% Nb and 5% Ta. The claimed process starts by cutting some shreds of Ti, Zr, Nb and Ta at sizes of utmost 10x5x5 mm, degreasing said shreds with volatile organic solvents, weighing and dosing the amounts of metals depending of the pre-established nominal composition, melting the shreds of metal in a cold crucible furnace by introducing into the crucible furnace the amounts of Ta, Ni, Zr and Ti in the decreasing order of the melting point, vacuuming the melting enclosure and protecting the same with an argon controlled atmosphere at a poor vacuum of -0.2...-0.3 bar, followed by increasing the temperature of the furnace up to over 2000°C, sufficient to melt the alloy, the power of the furnace increasing progressively to 25 kW with a frequency of the magnetic field of 215 Khz, then pouring the alloy into an ingot mould provided with a cooling circuit with water, said water being recirculated to the complete cooling of the mould, in the final stage of the process there is extracted from the mould the cylindrical ingot having a diameter of 30 mm, a length of 28 mm and a weight of 99.5 g.
|
