PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition containing red rice extract for skin whitening is provided to suppress tyrosinase activity and to block melanogenesis with less cytotoxicity. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening contains 0.001-20 wt% of red rice extract. The extract is prepared from rice bran of red rice using distilled water, 1,3-butylene glycol, alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms, ethyl acetate, or acetone solvent. The cosmetic composition is used in the form of an external use skin ointment, essence, lotion, cream, gel, lotion, pack, massage cream, emulsion, foundation, makeup base, soap, or sun oil.
