PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for estimating a position of a float type structure are provided to estimate a position of a ship by using a sound signal receiver. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of sound signal receivers(P1-Pn) are installed in different positions of the bottom of a floating type structure and receive sound signals from a sound transmitter. A delay time calculator(120) calculates arrival delay time of the received sound signals at each sound signal receiver. A position estimator(140) estimates the position of the sound transmitter by using the arrival delay time. The position estimator estimates the position of the floating type structure based on the estimated position of the sound transmitter.
