The invention relates to light industry and can be used at production of wide assortment of leathers. A method for leather treatment comprises hide preparation for tanning in solution of phosphorus-containing compounds with subsequent tanning. Tetrakishydroxymethyl phosphonium suphate solution is used as phosphorus-containing compounds, and tanning is realized with using of organic tanning agents mimosa tannides or thar tannides, and aluminium compounds. Use of the method provides production of high-quality leather.
