PURPOSE: A composition containing Brandisia hancei Hook. f. extract or fraction thereof is provided to suppress aldose reductaase activity and to prevent and treat diabetes complication. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diabetes complication contains Brandisia hancei Hook. f. extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared from branches, stems, or roots of Brandisia hancei Hook. f. using water, low alcohol of C1-C2, mixture solvent or water soluble alcohol. The pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diabetes complication contains a fraction prepared from the extract using organic solvent.
