Cupped articles. - The zinc container of a dry battery is made by first drawing a seamless cylinder closed at one end and then deforming the walls of the cylinder to produce the required cross-section. The deforming process may be carried out by drawing the cylinder through a square die using a square mandre as the inner drawing punch. In another method a mandrel 2 of square, rectangular or other polygonal shape is forced into the cylinder 1 which is then compressed in a vice having similarly shaped jaws 3, 4. The diagonal of the mandrel 2 may be of slightly greater length than the diameter of the cylinder 1 The cylinder, after having been deformed to the required shape, may be subjected to a further drawing process. |
